The expert-led sedation program, under the care of board-certified anesthesiologist Dr. Glenn Atlas, ensures your safety and relaxation throughout the procedure. From mild sedation for routine treatments to deeper sedation for more complex procedures, we provide a customized approach to help you feel at ease.
With sedation dentistry, you can overcome fear, sensitivity to dental tools, or discomfort from extended procedures. It’s an ideal solution for patients with heightened anxiety, low pain thresholds, or even those needing extensive dental work completed in fewer visits.
At Small Dental, our compassionate team prioritizes your comfort while delivering exceptional care. Schedule a consultation today to explore how sedation dentistry can help you achieve a healthy, confident smile without worry or discomfort.
What You Need To Know
After consulting with us. Dr. Atlas, the dentist, and the patient decide if this treatment option is appropriate for the patient. A mutually convenient date and time for the procedure is also chosen.
Naturally, preexisting medical conditions may affect the how anesthesia will effect the patient. Dr. Atlas works closely with any other physicians the patient may have to deliver “optimum anesthesia.”
Patients receive “conscious sedation” or “twilight sleep.” Patients have little, if any, recall of the dental procedure. Patients have been delighted with “waking up” and having their dental procedure over.
Concerning Pediatric Patients
Dr. Atlas can administer intravenous (IV) sedation, for dentistry, to children 5 years of age and older.
Special Needs Patients
Intravenous (IV) sedation, for dentistry, can be administered to mentally and physically challenged patients on a case-by-case basis.

FAQ’s About Sedation Dentistry at Small Dental
What is sedation dentistry, and who is it for?
Sedation dentistry uses medications to help patients relax during dental procedures. It’s ideal for individuals with dental anxiety, low pain tolerance, a strong gag reflex, or those undergoing extensive dental treatments.
What types of sedation are offered at Small Dental?
We offer “conscious sedation” or “twilight sleep,” where patients remain awake but deeply relaxed. This approach ensures minimal to no recollection of the procedure, enhancing comfort and reducing anxiety.
Who administers sedation at Small Dental?
Sedation is administered by Dr. Glenn Atlas, a board-certified anesthesiologist with over 12 years of experience. Dr. Atlas works closely with our dental team to ensure safe and effective sedation tailored to each patient’s needs.
Is sedation dentistry safe for children?
Yes, Dr. Atlas can safely administer intravenous (IV) sedation for children aged 5 and older. Each case is carefully evaluated to ensure the best possible care for our pediatric patients.
Can patients with special needs benefit from sedation dentistry?
Absolutely. Sedation dentistry is a great option for mentally or physically challenged patients. Dr. Atlas evaluates each case individually to provide a safe and comfortable experience.
How do I know if I’m a candidate for sedation dentistry?
During your consultation, our dental team and Dr. Atlas will review your medical history and discuss your treatment needs to determine if sedation is appropriate. Preexisting medical conditions will also be considered.
What should I expect during a sedation procedure?
Patients receive intravenous sedation, which induces a deeply relaxed state. Most patients have little or no memory of the procedure and feel as though they’ve slept through it, waking up with their dental work completed.
Do I need to make special preparations for sedation dentistry?
Yes, patients should follow any pre-procedure instructions provided, such as fasting for a certain period. Our team will provide detailed guidance before your appointment.
Can sedation dentistry be used for all dental procedures?
Sedation can be used for a wide range of dental treatments, from routine cleanings for anxious patients to more complex restorative or surgical procedures. Your dentist will determine the appropriate level of sedation for your treatment.
